Danny Jordaan’s ANC government has added a new broken promise to its ever growing list of failures: canning of the IDP and budget public participation process.
Section 15 of the Municipal Finance Act clearly states that the municipality must “make public any other information that the municipal council considers appropriate to facilitate the budget consultation process”.
But the municipality has not done this and the people of NMB have been denied the chance to participate in the City’s budget process. Jordaan’s ANC government cannot get its act together to host the public meetings it promises, despite council having already agreed to prioritise public participation.
The DA believes in open and inclusive government that works with the people. Public participation is a legislated obligation and a responsibility of a caring government.
After 75% of the IDP and budget planning meetings in October 2015 were canned, it is now clearer than ever that Jordaan cannot account to the public for any successes and instead is running from accountability.
After Jordaan’s appointment of a convicted criminal to high office in NMB, a growing list of broken promises, continuous cancelled meetings, no eradication of bucket toilets, months added to years of Metro Police launch delays, it is no wonder that the current ANC administration won’t face the people of NMB publicly.
Public participation in the budget and IDP is essential, and Danny Jordaan’s government is denying a voice to our communities.
The DA is set on winning Nelson Mandela Bay to deliver the change we need to move forward again.
The DA is ready to open the doors of government to the people of this Metro, so that we can turn NMB into the world-class municipality we all know it can be.
In a DA-led Nelson Mandela Bay, the people will come first, better services will be delivered, corruption will be stopped and jobs will be created.
The DA is ready to govern in Nelson Mandela Bay.
