Proudly South African is born from our national pride and patriotism, as well as the need to empower businesses to become economically competitive – the backbone of sustainable growth and development for South Africa.
As South Africa’s only manufacturer of alkaline batteries, this is a message Eveready is driving home, and something it’s proud of. Charles du Toit, HR director at Eveready said: “The initiative, and our business supports the Government’s plans to revive the economy so five million jobs can be created and unemployment can be reduced to 15% over the next ten years under the New Growth Path. As consumers understand the knock-on effect of their purchasing decisions, we will be closer to achieving this.”
The initiative is in its second phase, now has a focus on consumer education, with a view to influence consumer choice towards locally manufactured products. Taking part in Proudly South African’s Buy Local Summit, Eveready showcased its products, and engaged with private and public sectors to educate procurement decision makers on the benefits of buying local.
Rob Simon, Eveready financial director adds: “Supporting local businesses is important as ever now. Retailers are looking to the East for products on shelves as price and margins becomes even more crucial. By supporting local businesses consumers will ensure employment, and a growing South African economy.”
