EP Triathlon champion, Dan Howitz of Bluewater Bay, Port Elizabeth added to his great performances of season with two outstanding races at this year’s KentonXtreme Festival held over the past weekend at Kenton-on-Sea.
Howitz, who is hard at training for his upcoming overseas events, won Saturday’s Sunshine Coast SPAR Off Road Triathlon in a fast time of 1hr 37min and 12sec with East London’s Trevor Jordan in 2nd place and Uitenhage’s Willie Kruger 3rd overall. Local sports star Kerry Longhurst won the ladies division in 2hrs 14min from PE’s Vanessa Lessing and Gauteng’s Diana Schramm. In the team triathlon event, it was the young student team from Quest Africa in Alexandria who won in 1hr 52min from the local Team Build-it and the Kenton Sports Trust Team.
Howitz returned on Sunday morning for the Mega Build-it 55km Xtreme Mountain Bike race blitzing the field to win by over 13min in a strong 2hr 41min from fellow PE rider Conrad Viljoen and Grahamstown’s Adam Smith. Jeffreys Bay rider Sally Waterworth won the ladies race in 3hr 46min from Alexandria’s Misty Weyer and Grahamstown’s Tia Egglestone. In the 20km version of the event, local Kenton rider Don Cech won from Andrico Blignaut and Gareth Smith whilst Theresa Tunstead took the ladies honours from Tegan van der Merwe and Caley Chaplin. In the Hi-Tec Security Coastal 10km Beach Run is was Port Alfred runner Izandi Dzudzudzu who won in a fast 38min
