With about one in five people over the age of 35 having type 2 diabetes and more than 50% unaware that they have it, it’s time to create awareness to Diabetes in South Africa. It’s believed that every eight seconds someone in the world dies from diabetes-related causes whilst within the same eight second period a further two people in the world develop the condition.
To highlight the growing concerns and risks associated with Diabetes, the local branch of this national organisation will be hosting the Nelson Mandela Bay leg of the Global Diabetes Global Run/Walk this Saturday morning at Lakeside, North End Lake.
Online entries for the Nelson Mandela Bay Run/Walk are available on www.zports.co.za/globalwalk with the first 500 participants to register each receiving a Global Diabetes Run/Walk t-shirt and Pronutro goody bag. With awesome lucky draw prizes up for grabs, participants are also invited to take part in the Pronutro breakfast on the morning and free blood glucose and blood pressure tests available.
Diabetes is a serious condition, but with the help of Diabetes South Africa, people are becoming more aware of diabetes, and the national Global Diabetes Run/Walk is a great way for people to come together to fight diabetes and to create unity within communities.
