The Baakens Valley track in Port Elizabeth will host the opening round of the South African mountain bike cross-country (XCO) cup series, Cycling SA (CSA) said on Wednesday.
With a UCI category 1 rating for elite men and women, South Africa’s top XCO stars are expected to compete the series in a bid to accumulate UCI points towards their Rio Olympics 2016 qualification.
The 4.7km route, which starts and finishes at the William Moffet Retail Park, will take riders through a technical course at the Nature Reserve.
