Rare video footage of the biggest natural disaster to hit a South African city – uploaded by Jerry Schuitema.
Looking at the footage I remember (or think I do!) standing at Fort Fredrick and looking down as the waters raged through the Baakens Valley whilst my parents told me about the previous flood when a horse ended up on top of the bus station below. I recall accompanying my late Father to his business premises in Neave Township and seeing dead dogs floating in Kempston Road and Cadle Street and dead cows in the river. I recall my brother upending buckets of water on himself as he crawled through our home.
Where were you during the floods of 1968?
