The motor insurance survey, which analysed the driving behaviour of more than 10 000 motorists over two years, showed that Port Elizabeth drivers beat Cape Town and Johannesburg drivers in terms of good behaviour.
The study looked at aspects such as harsh braking, sharp cornering, acceleration, speeding, accidents and late night driving.
Older drivers ranked better than their younger counterparts, with the 60 plus age group outperforming drivers aged 18 to 25.
Women proved that they are still safer drivers than men; their lower risk profile means they often qualify for lower motor vehicle insurance premiums.
Recent studies show that the majority of road accidents in the country are caused by reckless driving and ignoring the rules of the road.
With motor vehicle accidents costing the South African economy more than R300-billion a year, it pays to create awareness of and correct bad driving habits.
Unfortunately, the high incidence of road accidents means that it is absolutely essential for motorists to have comprehensive car insurance.
But PWM Financial Management‘s short-term insurance consultants say; “Although Port Elizabeth drivers come out tops countrywide, a bumper bashing may be unavoidable” and recommend that you still explore with short-term insurance consultants about the best motor vehicle insurance option for you.
