After a relentless search for virtual clues, Heinrich and Izelle Kilian were crowned as the ultimate winners of the virtual treasure hunt staged by leading travel magazines Go! and Weg. The couple from Port Elizabeth drove off with a brand new, custom-fitted Mahindra XUV500 valued at R350 000.
From April to September, the magazines sent their readers on a virtual travel adventure by hiding virtual clues in one of the nineteen South African national parks. Huge monthly prizes were up for grabs and entries literally poured in from all corners of the country.
The monthly clues enticed readers to explore national parks from the Golden Gate in the Free State and the Garden Route national park in the Southern Cape to the Mapungubwe in Limpopo and the world famous Kruger national park.
According to Go! editor Barnie Louw, the reader response was incredible. “In total, we received more than 270 000 entries via the various entry platforms. The feedback from our readers has been overwhelmingly positive and the competition definitely placed the spotlight on our incredible natural treasures again. Readers of all ages were mesmerised by the hide-and-seek concept and once again fell under the spell of our national parks,” explains Louw.
