The 10th season of the 2014 aQuellé Ocean Racing Series™ reached the half way stage on Sunday with the first 5 rounds of the Series having been completed and whilst another 5 await participants in the first half of 2015 several participants have already staked their claim at the overall Series crown. Brigitte Muller (1km Swim), Megan Snyman (5km Beach Run), Dylan Finlay (5km Beach Run) and Milé Vermaak (5km Beach Walk) have all gone unbeaten so far this season.
Conditions on Sunday were anything but ideal as swimmers battled against stong winds and strong currents to complete their ocean swim. Wayne Jones and Muller had comfortable wins in the 1km Ocean Swim with Ian Venter and Joshua Bellairs claiming the remaining men’s podium positions and Amy Mardon and Tracy Taverner the ladies. With conditions getting progressively worse as the morning progressed it was the 2km swimmers who battled the most but this didn’t seem to deter Kirsten Marriott from winning her second title of the Season when she beat Rebecca Newman and Liza Kingston to the line with Bradley Reen claiming his first win of the season in the men’s category from top East London based SA triathlete, Nathan Le Roux, with Richard Gilbert in 3rd place.
