Police are trying to identify a woman who was murdered in Kwanobuhle on during the early hours of Monday morning.
Police spokesman, Lt Col Priscilla Naidu, said the woman, believed to be between 25 and 30 years of age, had apparently left the Kulathi tavern in Lawrence Vinqi Street and was highly intoxicated.
A 22-year-old man, who lived near to the tavern, apparently then offered the woman a place to stay for the night. It is then alleged that he raped the woman and thereafter stabbed her with a broken beer bottle.
The woman died sometime between midnight and 9am.
The man was arrested by police on a charge of murder after the woman’s body was discovered, but the identity of the woman is still unknown.
Naidu said police were appealing to anyone who may know the woman, or who could help trace her next of kin, to contact SAPS Kwanobuhle on 041-978-8800.
