Port Elizabeth – A 72-year-old woman was raped and robbed at her home in Port Elizabeth, police said on Thursday.
The woman was woken by the sound of movement in her bedroom at 01:00. She got up and saw a man in the bedroom and three others in the passage, Captain Stanley Jarvis said.
“The men forced her into the lounge and started searching the property for valuable goods. She was taken into the bathroom by one of the men, who raped her. They fled on foot with a computer central processing unit valued at R2 500.”
Jarvis said no weapons were used and the woman was receiving counselling.
Meanwhile, three men gained entrance to the property of a Zimbabwean student in Summer Strand at around 02:20.
“Armed with two knives they took a laptop and other valuables valued at R7 500. The men fled on foot and a case of robbery was opened,” said Jarvis.
In Gelvandale, seven men, each armed with a knife, entered a business and confronted and assaulted the owner and his brother.
“They took money to the value of R2 500 and goods to the value of R10 000 before fleeing on foot. A case of robbery and assault has been opened.”
All three incidents are being investigated.
