At 18h53, Monday, 26th September, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following a request by a ships agent to rendezvous with the bulk carrier Anangel Seafarer, sailing from Singapore to Brazil, to patient evacuate a 36 year old Greek sailor onboard suffering a left hand injury.
NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew requested the assistance of the Transnet National Ports Authority Pilot boat and her crew, and an NSRI Port Elizabeth rescue team, with extrication equipment and accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic, rendezvoused with the bulk carrier 2 nautical miles off-shore of the Port of Port Elizabeth and found the patient to be walking wounded and in a stable condition with his hand, suffering a fractured middle finger and lacerations, bandaged by his ships medics.
The patient was transferred onto the Pilot boat and brought into Port and he has been transported to hospital by the ships agent for further treatment.
It is not known to NSRI the cause of the hand injury and the patient is expected to make a full recovery.
