Port Elizabeth – Alleged murder mastermind Christopher Panayiotou and his two co-accused are expected back in the Eastern Cape High Court on Friday.
Panayiotou, Sinethemba Nenembe and Zolani Sibeko are on trial on charges of conspiring, kidnapping, robbing and killing his wife Jayde on April 21, 2015.
They have pleaded not guilty.
The alleged hitman, Sizwezakhe Vumazonke, died in September.
Jayde, 29, was abducted outside her home in Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth, while waiting for her lift to Riebeeck Park High School. She was found shot dead in a veld outside KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, the following day.
On Thursday a hostile witness, Babalwa Breakfast, was arrested minutes after her testimony.
Statement in dispute
The 23-year-old girlfriend of Luthando Siyoni, the alleged middleman who helped Panayiotou find Vumazonke, was taken into custody and charged with perjury and defeating the ends of justice. She is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
On Wednesday she denied the accuracy of information contained in two statements she made to police in April 2015.
She made one statement on April 27, 2015, at the Uitenhage police station, and another during the early hours of the following morning at the Kabega Park police station.
In the statements Breakfast said Panayiotou had approached Siyoni and asked him to kill Jayde.
On Wednesday afternoon Breakfast denied saying this or that Panayiotou would pay R50 000 for the hit.
The effect of being declared a hostile witness is that the State could cross-examine Breakfast as if she were a defence witness.
