Over 500 people have been evacuated from their homes following heavy rains in the Eastern Cape.
CAPE TOWN – The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Friday confirmed that over 500 people were evacuated from their homes amid heavy rain fall.
At least four people drowned in Pedi and Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape, as a result of the flooding, among them a police officer.
Several parts of the province have been experiencing heavy downpours since Wednesday this week.
Municipal spokesperson Cupido Baron said, “We’re looking at more than 500 people [who have been evacuated] at this stage.”
He said officials were monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape has also experiencing heavy rains.
Residents have been warned of a wet weekend.
