I am of the humble opinion that I have vast experience in photographing and dealing with people who park illegally in Disabled Parking areas. Up until yesterday the people that I have photographed or engaged in corrective behaviour with have been rude and dismissive of my community spirited attempt to take up the cudgels on behalf of the disabled.
I have been verbally abused, accused of being racist, physically intimidated, warned by the Longhair that someone will take a knife to me and temporarily disowned by my children who think I have a death wish calculated to embarrass them no end.
NOT ONCE has an illegally parked driver done the right thing, acknowledged his mistake and moved his vehicle immediately, until yesterday that is.
The story goes like this: I snapped a vehicle as it was entering a disabled parking space at the Acres Shopping Centre. The driver made a gesture of question to me and I, gearing my loins for a tirade of abuse, pointed out to him that he was taking up a space meant for the disabled. Much to my surprise he apologised profusely and promised to move his car immediately. Then he followed up by finding me in the Acres Spar and confirming that he had moved his car and once again apologising. Colour me so impressed to find someone so willing to acknowledge a mistake AND rectify it immediately.
I promised to not make him the Traffic Hooligan of the day and delete the image.
BUT, I then thought that this was such a rare occurrence that it would be fitting to make him the very first MyPE TRAFFIC HERO OF THE DAY.
