At the press conference to announce the appointment of Matt Sexton as Head Coach for EP Rugby and Brad Mooar as Specialist Skills Coach yesterday, the EP Director of Rugby, Alan Solomons, told the local media that in recognition of their loyal support and favoured standing he would ensure that all major news would be broken to them first.
As a local boy, Alan understands the need to promote our region and for this we thank him.
Okay so what has Sport24 vs our Local News Media have to do with this?
Our local news media think nothing of ‘borrowing without accreditation’ from each other – it has happened to MyPE far too many times to count. When I point this out to the offender the stock standard response is always that it was a ‘clerical error’ and my stock standard response is always; “Pull the other leg”.
Journalism 101 teaches you to credit other people’s work – it is just polite. On the internet you do that by linking DIRECTLY back to the page of the site that you got your information from. If using someone else’s images it is polite to ask first before linking back. If you use someone else’s images in a print medium then you PAY for the use thereof.
Sadly our local media do NOT set a good example and fail to do this on many an occasion.
That said – everyone does make mistakes and what you do to FIX it is what counts. Doing a ‘Kupido Baron’ by just ignoring someone does not show good upbringing and manners at all – Yes, Editor, I AM referring to YOU!
AND, best of all, being a good citizen does wonders for your Search Engine Optimisation as, like in this article, it also gets you those all important backlinks for free and in a way that MAKES people want to visit Sport24.
