The local Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is dishing up a feast of sport in the month of February with the latest addition to the calendar being the 19 February Confederation Of African Football (CAF) game taking place between local team Orlando Pirates and CRD Libolo from Angola.
Pirates coach, Julio Leal, accompanied by new Pirates Soccer Administrator, Senzo Mazingisa were out inspecting the stadium and pitch today ahead of this historic first time CAF game in Port Elizabeth.
Looking relaxed after the Christmas break, described as; “Fantastic” by Leal, he and Mazingisa highlighted that Pirates were looking forward to a highly succesful year as 2012 was their 75th anniversary which had featured prominently in their past recruitment of excellent players.
Asked to explain their mental preparation for crunch games, the former Moroka Swallows coach, Leal said; “The most important game of our lives is the next one, not those far in the future.”
Mazingisa was full of praise for local Pirates supporters who turn out in droves to support the team.
The NMB Stadium will host:
- 11 February: Southern Kings vs DHL Stormers
- 15 February: Jomo Cosmos vs Kaizer Chiefs
- 17 February: Southern Kings vs Sharks
- 19 February: Orlando Pirates vs CRD Libolo
Access Management CEO, Stephan Pretorius said that he was; “…very excited about the growth of soccer at the NMB Stadium and PE will soon be recognised as one of the greatest soccer cities in South Africa.”
