Earlier in the week Chippa United COO Thabiso Shooz Mekuto laid a bet with me that if his side lost to Ajax Cape Town on Friday night then he would pay for my dinner.
At that stage Chippa were in second last place on the PSL log and Ajax Cape Town were in second place on the log.
Any betting man would have thought that to be unfair odds.
But the game was to be one that celebrated the substitute as it was up to them to produce the net banging action.
The run of play last night was pretty pedestrian up until the 83rd minute when Chippa United scored the opening goal of the match through substitue Mxolisi Ntshingila, who had come on two minutes before for Andile Mbenyane.
Victory slipped out of Chippa’s grasp with a minute to go when Thabiso Nkoana score to level the scores at 1-1. Nkoana came on for Robin Ngalande Jr in the 55th minute.
I suppose that one could argue that the draw is a victory of sorts for the Chillii Boys as they are now in 13th spot after 5 games but things will change rapidly when the eleven other out of sixteen teams advance to five games each from the four they have played. Ajax, Wits, Swallows and Chippa have asof today played 5 games each.
But the burning question is; “What do we do about that bet Shooz?”
I have a suggestion – you make the date and time and we will each pay for our own dinner at a venue of my choosing – The Chartroom Restaurant at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club. Deal?
