The popular and unique Nelson Mandela Bay aQuellé Ocean Racing Series returns this Sunday morning to Hobie Beach, Port Elizabeth, for round 2. Now in it’s 11th season, the Series is enjoying a significant growth in recreational participants who are enjoying the Sunday morning race days as a fun way to get fit this summer.
Wayne Mitchell and Megan Snyman will be wanting to continue their winning ways in the 5km Beach Run whilst the inclusion of a 1km, 2km and 3km swim distance from the start of the season has made the swim results very interesting and split the once dominated 2km swim. Series dominator Daniel Jones appears to have selected the 2km swim which he won in round 1 which saw Dylan Smith claiming the first win in the 3km distance together with Tracy Gouws whilst the ladies masters swimmers dominated the 2km results lead by Antonella Saporta. Ian Venter and Kristen Marriott won the 1km swim two weeks ago and are going to be hard to beat this season over this distance.
Series registration is just R50 with the entry fee for swim events R60, beach events R40 and the kids 1km beach run at just R30. Over R10,000 in lucky draw prizes is up for grabs each race day including R1,000 cash with the kids 12 years and under enjoying their open prize giving ceremony before the adult prize giving.
Sunday’s round 2 opens with registration at 7.30am ahead of the race starts from 9am followed by the prize giving on the beach from 10am.
