The number of evacuations increased from 740 early last night to almost 2000 this morning due to flooding and more moderate showers expected today.
The following areas are currently still without electricity and we are working on the restoration of supply:
Van Stadens, Gamtoos, Tembani, Butterfield, Greenbushes, Theescombe, Seaview-Rural areas, Blue Horizon Bay, Mill Park, Forest Hill, Summerstrand-Vigne Street, and Westering.
We once again would like to reiterate the call for residents to remain safely indoors as even moderate showers will cause water levels to rise quickly.
Several roads are closed at this stage. As water levels rise it is expected that road closures will increase:
- Third Avenue Dip (Newton Park)
- Riverstone Road Bridge
- Soudien/ Old Uitenhage Road
- Kruisriver Road (Uitenhage)
- Seaview Road
On Saturday a second vehicle rolled on the M4/Settlers Way as a result of the high water level and a tree fell over the N2 at the Cotswold Bridge in the Port Elizabeth/Cape Town direction.
