The Fanie Du Toit Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the NWU-Pukke so far in the Varsity Cup this season and the Potchefstroom outfit will be looking to prove that there’s no place like home once more on Monday.
In a repeat of last year’s final, the University of Cape Town Ikeys travel inland to take on the Pukke in what promises to be an exciting clash with the hosts looking to exact some form of revenge after last year’s heartbreak.
So far this season the hosts for tonight’s clash have gone unbeaten at home and will be riding high heading into round five of the competition after they saw off the University of Pretoria Tuks 42-37 last week.
The Ikeys meanwhile ran riot against the competition’s newcomers, the Central University of Technology Ixias, pasting them 90-8 on the Green Mile.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Ixias as they now travel to the capital to take on Tuks at the LC de Villiers Stadium.
The fixture gives Tuks coach Pote Human an opportunity to rest a number of players and the man in charge has rung the changes for the clash.
A new front row will pack down with props Dayan van der Westhuizen and Andrew Beerwinkel handed starts, while Nqobisiswe Mxoli takes over from Juan Schoeman and Dennis Vissers comes in at lock to join another new inclusion, Jason Jenkins, in a revamped forward pack.
The log-leaders, University of Free State Shimlas travel down to Port Elizabeth to take on the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Madibaz for a fixture that could see them extend their slender lead at the head of affairs as the race for semifinal places intensifies.
Monday’s early kick-off also promises to be an exciting affair as the University of Johannesburg make the trip to the Cape to take on the University of Stellenbosch Maties at the Danie Craven Stadium.
The hosts head into this clash on the back of a disappointing 21-16 loss to the Shimlas in Bloemfontein last week, while UJ will be confident after their impressive 42-13 victory over the Madibaz in PE.
