The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality hereby notifies all motorists that when applying for a learner or driver’s license, applicants (who have to apply in person) are legally obliged to have their eyes tested at the municipal Driving Licence Testing Centre. This obligation in terms of Regulation 108 (1)(c)(iv) of the National Road Traffic Act, No. 93 of 1996, stipulates that “the examiner shall ensure that the applicant’s vision complies with the requirements referred to in Regulation 102 by using the image capturing system”.
This system not only captures information regarding the eye test but also has a function that allows for the printing of a report that will ensure greater credibility. This is immediately effective.
Only in the event where the applicant is disqualified by the Driving Licence Testing Centre when first tested and referred to an optometrist, will an optometrist certificate be allowed.
