The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape is currently installing 2500 locally manufactured Solar Power Units in Informal Settlements in the bay
The unit was designed and developed in Nelson Mandela Bay by Microcare Solar Components and is a 12V Solar Power supply with a 100W PV panel charging a 100Ah battery to supply power for 5 LED lights, 2 USB charging ports and a 12V socket ideal for a radio or 12V TV.
This local innovation is been installed by local entrepreneurs who have been trained by Microcare to install the Solar Power Supply units in the bay. Currently over 500 units have already been installed as many in the poorer communities of Nelson Mandela Bay enjoy electricity for the 1st time
Microcare has been innovating solutions for everyday South Africa for the past 26 years and the team believes that a boost in skills development, job creation and a priority to support and buy local is a step in the right direction towards overcoming our energy and economic challenges
