The Nelson Mandela Bay duathlon will take place at an all-new venue this weekend where it will present an exciting challenge for competitors.
The one-off duathlon race, which forms part of the triathlon winter series, will take place at the Nelson Mandela University where athletes will be tested in their off-road abilities. The race will move away from the usual tarred roads and smooth services when athletes venture into the university nature reserve for a rare opportunity to experience the natural beauty which it has to offer.
The change of venue and the new conditions which athletes will be facing are all in an attempt to breathe life into a discipline which goes somewhat unsupported in the Nelson Mandela Bay region. “With the event taking place in an utterly unique place like the NMU nature reserve it will hopefully attract new people who did not previously consider taking part in a duathlon”, said event organiser, Michael Zoetmulder. “This event and the upcoming triathlon in August offers triathletes the opportunity to further their training for the People’s Triathlon in September”.
