The new Southern Kings home and away kits were unveiled today ahead of their first Super Rugby game against the Western Force on 23 February 2013 at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. A black home and white away kit were ‘modeled’ by Luke Watson (Captain) and Mpho Mbyizo.
Clearly delighted with the kit and the progress of the Southern Kings to Super Rugby, Cheeky Watson had a few choice words to say to the local rugby supporters who insist on attending games in support of rival teams. In essence Cheeky challenged each and every one to show a little bit of home gees and get behind the team that has been instrumental in bringing big name international, national and provincial teams to Port Elizabeth over the last two years. And, yes Cheeky is correct in calling out those who bitch about the lack of local rugby but then spit in the faces of local players and administrators but supporting ‘foreign’ teams.
The Southern Kings will turn out against the Griquas on Wednesday 13 February and in a thank you to local fans the ticket prices have been slashed to R30.00.
It was nice to see Alan Solomons acknowledge players, like Mpho Mbyizo, who had traveled the long road over 2.5 years to the Southern Kings.
Southern Kings replica jerseys will be available to the general public from 15 February 2013 (quick, postpone Valentines Day!) and retails for R599.00. Stockists include selected Totalsports Stores, Brian Bands, Action Sports Retailers, The Footballer Sports, Top Gear, Sportsmans Warehouse and Bertram Sports.
