THE Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Business Chamber recently announced the appointment of Nomkhita Mona as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the leading business chamber in the region.
Mona will officially take up her new role on December 1.
She is an experienced CEO, board executive and board member who has gained extensive national and international exposure over the past two decades in various spheres of business.
Previous positions held by Mona include group chief executive officer at the South African Forestry Company SOC Ltd (SAFCOL), chief executive officer of the Uitenhage Despatch Development Initiative (UDDI) and chief executive officer of the Eastern Cape Tourism Board.
She was the first black woman to serve on the board of Good Year Holdings (SA) and also served as commissioner on the Eastern Cape Planning Commission.
She is a current REMCO member of ICASA and a board member and trustee of the Wilderness Foundation.
She previously served as deputy president of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber.
She holds an MBA from Rhodes University, a masterâ€™s degree in labour relations and human resources, along with an honours degree in industrial relations and a BA degree (psychology and sociology) from Nelson Mandela University.
NMB Business Chamber president Thomas Schaefer congratulated Mona on her appointment and said he was excited to implement a new strategy for the Business Chamber with Mona at the helm.
â€œWe will embark on a new strategic direction following the appointment of Ms Mona as CEO. We are very pleased with our appointment and thank all the board members who were tasked with the selection process,â€? Schaefer said.
Mona, who believes in an inclusive leadership style, said she was looking forward to start working at the Business Chamber.
â€œI am passionate about the Nelson Mandela Bay and the opportunities the city offers businesses operating in the region. I am looking forward to being a part of the team that will drive greater investment into our metro and create a competitive enabling business environment,â€? she said.
