Dear Minister Mokonyane, ever wondered what a hole that you pour R75 000.00 per day into in penalties looks like? Then this is it.
An urgent meeting is being held tomorrow to try and re-instate this years budget for the water purification project and avoid R75 000.00 in penalties that will be raised by the construction company for non-payment.
In addition if DWAF fails to release funds to complete the Nooitgedacht Low Level Water Scheme Purification Plant then the citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay will miss out on an additional 70 Million litres of water per day from the Gariep Dam.
At present the Nooitgedacht Low Level Water Scheme in Addo purifies 160 Million litres of water per day that comes into the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area delivered from the Gariep Dam. That represents 57% of the daily consumption of 280 Million litres per day. An additional 70 million litres of water from Phase 3 of the purification plant will then ensure that 82% of our water comes from the Gariep Dam and relieve the dams to the West.
