The Minister of Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu will on Tuesday, 23 June 2015, sign a service level agreement with the Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements Helen Sauls-August and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan in a bid to fast track housing delivery in the region.
This will be preceded by a two-day workshop for contractors at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality following an undertaking made by the Minister Sisulu at a meeting held with this sector earlier this month. Media are welcome to attend and cover this important interaction.
The developer’s workshop will outline a programmatic and institutional alignment, realign current programme, initiatives and policies aimed at contractor or Small Medium and Micro Enterprise development and participation in response to the need to accelerate housing delivery within the Metro.
Cabinet in April approved a package of assistance for the Metro that will see the Housing Development Agency (HDA) becoming an implementing agent to speed up housing delivery over the next three years.
Councillor Jordaan will open the developer’s workshop at 09h30 today which runs until to-morrow at the Nelson Mandlea Bay Stadium.
Editor: How I long for the day when we as a society do not read headlines such as the one above. Don’t you too long for that day when missions are accomplished, goals achieved and society praised?
Unfortunately history is littered with presumptuous mutterings two of which spring to mind:
- Mark Twain: “The report of my death was an exaggeration”
- The 2003 Mission Accomplished speech that got its name from a banner that read “Mission Accomplished” displayed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during a televised address by United States President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003 and the controversy that followed.
