Heavy rains is expected to continue to fall in the Eastern Cape over the weekend, the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality said on Friday.
“Ongoing heavy rain [is] expected that could result in localised flooding,” the municipality said in a statement.
A joint operations centre was established on Wednesday to deal with flooding.
Disaster management officials were evacuating people in areas where water levels were rising.
“Those accommodated in community halls due to flooded shacks or homes receive blankets, mattresses and foodstuffs… affected residents are requested to be patient as the need for assistance is increasing.”
The municipality said parts of 3rd Avenue, Seaview and Lakefarm roads in Port Elizabeth would be closed.
