Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, in partnership with Marina Sea Salt, Summerstrand Hotel and Swartkops Sea Salt (Pty) Ltd have joined forces in a collaboration that will see popular salt artist Percy Maimela display his unique artistic talent at the upcoming People’s Port Festival this weekend, on 25-26 March 2017 at the Port of Port Elizabeth operated by Transnet National Ports Authority.
His first visit to a coastal city, and his first time seeing the ocean, Percy Maimela, a humble Mabopane resident, discovered his artistic talent when he turned spilled salt on a storeroom floor into a work of art by drawing into it. By only using salt and the ground as his tools, Percy is able shape salt into highly detailed images of various celebrity faces. His unique natural talent recently saw him become the Marina Sea Salt brand advocate, where he makes exclusive use of Marina Lighthouse salt flakes to create his art.
Through collaboration with Marina Sea Salt, Summerstrand Hotel, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism was able to bring Percy and his unique talent to the People’s Port Festival, where he will be performing live salt art drawings at the Marina Sea Salt stand that will be situated in the indoor lifestyle area for crowds to marvel at. The public will also have the chance to try their hand at salt art for the first time during the festival this weekend, under the guidance of Percy.
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism has made this experience possible by securing his flights with support from Marina Sea Salt, and accommodation in partnership with the Summerstrand Hotel.
“It is indeed a great honour that a recognised and popular artist such as Percy Maimela will be experiencing his first ocean encounter in Nelson Mandela Bay at the People’s Port Festival. With our vast coastline, sandy beaches and blue flag status, we are certain that it will be an experience that he will always remember. As an organisation, we feel proud that we were able to assist in making that a reality for Percy,” shared NMBT CEO: Ms Mandlakazi Skefile.
