The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) has resolved to recognise and honour top Nelson Mandela Bay based companies for their confidence in the region, their commitment and contribution to job creation and sustainability, economic growth, increase in exports, investments and expansions.
In honouring these companies, the Municipality, under the leadership of the Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan, will host a Top 50 Awards Programmes.
The awards ceremony will achieve two goals. The first focus will be to recognise and retain the top 50 NMB companies for their respective contributions to the economic growth of the region across five specific categories.
Proposed categories identifed include: Top Exporters, Top Investors, Top Newcomers, Long Standing Companies and Top Job Creators.
The second focus will be extending and re-introducing the service offerings of the NMBM and the Export Helpdesk through the stakeholder engagement exercise. This will assist in developing long-lasting relationships with the top 50 local companies, with the intention of creating a more business friendly environment with the capacity to streamline business support services.
The companies that will be awarded are those companies that have persisted in their commitment to the region, despite the current challenges of increasing costs and the global economic climate. These are the companies that have in recent times demonstrated confidence in doing business in the region, with new investments in the manufacturing industry and considerable expansions/re-investments.
The selection of companies was done by the following panel of business leaders and experts: Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO, Kevin Hustler; Exporters Club Chairman, Quintin Levey; International Trade Desk Coordinator, Bettina Pheiffer; NMBM Trade and Investment Director, Lutho Nduvane; and NMBM Trade and Investment Promotion Assistant Director, Carmenita Redcliffe.
The Top 50 Awards will take place on 3 March 2016 from 07h30 to 11h30 at Elizabeth Place, Pickering Street, Newton Park, Port Elizabeth.
