CAPE TOWN – The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality‘s long-awaited Metro Police force may finally become a reality.
The municipality this week announced plans to launch police department next month, more than six years after the city council’s resolution to establish the force.
The Nelson Mandela Bay’s Metro Police Department has been six years in the making.
Metro Police Chief Pinkie Mathabethe, who was employed in 2014, has had no actual police force to lead.
Municipality spokesperson Kupido Baron says this will soon change.
“We will be implementing the Metro Police as soon as April.”
Baron says the exact date of the launch will be announced later this month.
