To address the skills shortage in the South African economy and also within the institution, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) has a Bursary Programme in place, focusing on assisting,mentoring and employing prospective engineers. The Bursary Programme for 2019 is now open, and students who wish to study for an engineering qualification at a tertiary institution in 2019 have until 28 September 2019 to apply to the NMBM for a bursary.
The Municipality’s Bursary Programme will provide successful bursary holders with access to quality education and training, as well as skills development opportunities, including workplace learning and experience.
Bursaries for study are available in the following engineering disciplines:
- BSc/Civil Engineering
- BSc/BEng Mechanical and
- BSc Electrical Engineering
Grade 12 learners with South African ID numbers, who are permanent residents of South Africa, may apply if they have obtained a Matric Exemption in Mathematics and Physical Science and meet the entry requirements for a degree in Engineering. Bursaries are also available for students what have been accepted at a university or current tertiary students who are already enrolled at a University studying towards any of the abovestated engineering degrees.
The bursary will cover tuition fees; residential and meal fees; and a monthly allowance.
The successful candidate will be required to enter into a binding contract with the Council after graduation for working for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality for a period equal to the tenure of the bursary. Where bursars are required to undertake experiential training, as prescribed by the course, with the Municipality, an allowance will be paid to the bursars during this period.
Applicants must submit a detailed CV, accompanied by a certified ID copy. If currently in Grade 12, a copy of the applicant’s June Grade 12 results must accompany the NMBM bursary application form (obtainable from Reception, Ground Floor, Lillian Diedericks Building (formerly Brister House) or from Ms Sinazo Rambuza, ninth floor, Lillian Diedericks Building). If an applicant has already completed Grade 12, with an exemption, a copy of the Grade 12 Certificate must be attached, or a statement of results.
