The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be the first local authority in the country to launch a Garden of Remembrance for deceased councillors at a special ceremony on Friday, 15 August from 10:00 at the Donkin Reserve.
Representatives from national government, provincial government, provincial local government institutions and family members of the deceased councillors as well as our own dignitaries are expected to attend this formal procedure where 52 councillors will be honoured.
Councillors of all political denominations, who played a role in the local legislature since 1994, will be honoured with planted trees and commemorative inscriptions overlooking the city.
Since this programme was approved by the Municipal Council last year the names of Councillor Lucky Vumazonke and Councillor Buyisile Mkavu will not be added to the ceremonial list as yet since their families are still observing a period of mourning. Their names will be added at a later stage.
