The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and Eskom have agreed to amend the Peak Times in the time of Use Tariffs for the months of July and August 2018.
The Pilot Project will see the Morning Peak Tariff being removed and that being replaced by the “Standard Tariff”.
The Peak Time will be moved to a Single Peak Time from 17:00 to 21:00 i.e. a 4-hour afternoon / evening Peak on Week days only.
In order to ensure that the Pilot Project yields the best possible results, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will also shift the Geyser Loads during the same 4-hour new Peak Period i.e. the Hot Water Geysers will be switched off for the same 4-hour Peak Period.
“Time of Use” means a tariff that has different monetary value applied during different times of the day. In other words, a user of such a tariff pays an amount according to the time of day the electricity is used. It is to encourage customers to use more energy at off peak times in order to balance the demand.
These tariff charges are charged at certain times of night or day when the demand is at its lowest and higher rates at popular times. This tariff is structured as a Peak (17:00 – 21:00), Off Peak (22:00 – 06:00) and Standard (06:00 – 17:00 21:00 – 22:00) time slot. Persons utilizing the “Time of Use” tariff will be affected by the peak time change for the months of July and August 2018.
