The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is fast closing in on reaching 3000 likes on facebook with just a mere 82 more to go to reach this milestone. Connecting with residents on Twitter is also coming along nicely with 2 637 followers being informed regularly about new developments in the city.
Direct communication with target audiences allows the municipality to inform residents about service delivery issues such as planned electricity outages due to maintenance, water supply interruptions due to various reasons, road closures when necessary and a range of other issues. This is done in addition to providing information through traditional media platforms such as newspapers, radio and TV.

Editor: I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but having lots of followers is only powerful if they read AND react to your messages on the various social media channels – you still need to follow the basic rule which is; “Post every important and unique message/article/item of content on your OWN web site FIRST, before you venture out to social media.” At least then your messages will be found if anyone searches.
