Motherwell community members have come to the DA to seek help, after the police as per instructions of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, demolished their illegally built shacks yesterday.
These community members have been on the waiting list to receive houses for many years.
They moved to and built shacks at the illegal site in an attempt to be close to an area where RDP houses are currently being built, in the hope that they would not be the “forgotten” ones again when the time came for RDP housing allocations.
The community members are now devastated because their shacks, as well as their personal belongings inside have been destroyed.
The ANC ward councillor has been failing the community by neglecting them, and by not ensuring that service delivery takes place in the area.
Due to frustration and dissapointment, community members are now starting to see the DA as the only alternative that can deliver.
Community members have been coming to me in hordes wanting to join the DA, as they have lost faith in the ANC.
I have been consulting with the community members and assisting them to cope with their loss of livelihood during this difficult time.
The DA will continue to work with and assist the Motherwell community, as well as other communities in South Africa to improve their socio-economic functioning.
