Port Elizabeth police have tracked down the mother of a battered two-year-old girl who was admitted to hospital last week with serious head injuries.
However, police spokesperson Captain Andre’ Beetge, said the 24-year-old woman has not been arrested nor charged in connection with the alleged assault of the child, known only as Mazi.
The little girl was dropped off last Monday at a clinic in Motherwell by a woman who refused to give her own name and because of her condition, she was rushed to Dora Nginza Hospital, where the last we heard she had been placed on life support.
Beetge said on Sunday that the mother was located on Friday and that the investigation was at a sensitive stage.
In an earlier statement police said that an attempted murder case was under investigation.
