Metro Security Services caught a car thief red handed at the Mercantile Hospital complex in Korsten, Port Elizabeth this afternoon – Wednesday 5 September 2012.
Metro Security services Operations Manager, Kaashief Niekerk said the man, in his early thirties, had been caught red handed, sitting inside one of the hospital employee’s vehicles trying to jump start it, shortly before 2pm this afternoon. “One of the kitchen staff noticed the man inside a white Jetta Fox that belongs to one of the kitchen supervisors, which was parked in the employee parking area on level three,” said Niekerk.
Niekerk said the kitchen staff member had immediately reported the matter to the on site security manager, Kennedy Minish, who responded and apprehended the man, who was still inside the vehicle.
He said the car thief had been taken to Gelvandale police station, where he was handed over and charged with theft of motor vehicle.
“There has been a spate of car thefts in the area, and we would like to caution motorists in the area to be extra vigilant,” said Niekerk.
