The Team of Choice had applied to have their club name changed, but have since opted out of that decision, while the city of PE had earlier tried to lure United to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for next term, but the club have rejected that offer.

A statement from the PSL read:

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) today (Friday) received correspondence from Maritzburg United FC where they confirmed their intention to withdraw the application for a name change.

They will continue using the name Maritzburg United FC in the 2012/13 season.

The club management informed the PSL that they will continue using the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg as their home ground. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth will be Maritzburg United’s alternative venue.
