Low-cost airline Mango said yesterday it would add flights on its Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth route from October.
Mango presently operates four weekly return flights between Cape Town and PE, and they have seven return flights between Johannesburg and PE.
Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout said the route had proven to be a success since they started their air services in December 2012.
“The Eastern Cape is a growth area for the business and Mango has been well received by the community.”
The new schedule will see the carrier increase flights between the two cities by 55% with the addition of return sectors on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
He said their additional flights would create about 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Mango’s announcement comes just after FlySafair was granted a domestic licence after 10 months of suspension.
