A 32-year-old man was shot in the stomach last night during an armed robbery, while doing deliveries in Salt Lake, Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesman, warrant officer Alwin Labans, said Hanies Berij, who was apparently delivering bread at around 6pm, was approached by two men in Clark Street while opposite Bibi’s takeaways.
“The men approached him and one drew a firearm and demanded money from him,” said Labans.
He said shots were fired and Berij was shot in the stomach. The men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Berij was admitted to Livingstone Hospital.
Labans said a case of armed robbery and attempted murder had been opened.
