CAPE TOWN – A man has drowned at a beach in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Rescuers were unable to revive the elderly man, who was swimming with friends when he went missing in the surf on Saturday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Craig Lambinon says, “On arrival on the scene during an extensive search operation for a 55-year-old local man, who had gone missing in the water while swimming with friends after encountering difficulties currents, the man was located and recovered from the surf line and brought to shore where a CPR was commenced. But despite extensive CPR, the man was sadly declared deceased.”
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old girl who was swept out to sea in Betty’s Bay nearly two weeks ago has still not been found.
It’s understood she was standing on the rocks with her mother when a wave knocked her into the water.
