Port Elizabeth – A man was arrested in connection with a
robbery at a tavern in Motherwell, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
Four men armed with guns allegedly robbed tavern patrons of
cellphones, wallets and jewellery on Saturday.
An undisclosed amount of cash and liquor were also stolen
from the tavern, said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu.
“That same night Swartkops police were holding a
roadblock at Wells Estate when a Mazda 323 did not stop at the roadblock,”
“A chase ensued and the car, driven by a 25-year-old
man, was stopped in Motherwell in Port Elizabeth.”
Several firearms, bottles of liquor and cellphones were
found inside the car.
The driver was arrested for possession of an unlicensed
firearm and ammunition.
The investigation into the robbery continues.
The 25-year-old is expected to appear in the Motherwell
Magistrate’s Court soon.
