The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mayoral Committee have officially given the April tour of Mafikizolo, one of South Africa’s favourite bands with several platinum selling albums behind its name, its stamp of approval.
Aimed at promoting heritage and national unity the multi-award winning duo will tour Nelson Mandela from 15 April and end their visit off with a concert at The Boardwalk on 18 April.
The Mayoral Committee, chaired by Executive Mayor Benson Fihla, agreed to the visits to selected liberation heritage sites, teen discussions at Limekhaya High School, Newell High School and Gelvandale High School amongst many others as it is in line with the Nelson Mandela Bay legacy events that was launched last year.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Director for Sports, Arts and Culture, Noxolo Nqwazi, said the tour will contribute towards realizing the significance of heritage sites and highlight the selflessness of the victims and heroes that participated in the liberation struggle.
“It will encourage residents to embrace heritage sites and promote patriotism in Nelson Mandela Bay,” she said.
The tour will be co-funded by various sponsors including Sun International, Umhlobo Wenene, Daily Sun and Volkswagen. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will also contribute towards logistics and safety and security arrangements for the tour.
