The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) is proud to welcome highly experienced marketing executive Luvuyo Bangazi who has joined the agency from July as their Marketing and Communications Manager. Luvuyo, an inaugural 2011 Top 40 under 40 business achiever, has been a partner and director of the highly successful Port Elizabeth advertising agency, Boomtown, for nearly ten years. His core objective at the MBDA will be to leverage his substantial destination marketing experience gained whilst working on major national and international destinations brands such as, Eastern Cape Adventure Province, Cacadu’s World of 7 Wonders, Namibia Tourism, Coega Development Corporation and others in marketing the city’s potential for investment.
Since its establishment, the MBDA has successfully initiated and developed a number of key strategic projects in and around Nelson Mandela Bay. ”Catalytic projects such as Route 67, the Donkin Reserve, Redevelopment of the Tramways Building, Kings Beach, a number of other inner city urban renewal upgrades and those in the surrounding areas are starting to yield great results for the Nelson Mandela Bay” says MBDA Chief Executive Officer, Pierre Voges. He adds, ” having gone through an exhaustive recruitment process, I was clear that we needed someone with the right mix of experience and fresh ideas to accelerate the leveraging of these assets we have created to generate greater return on investment for the City and Luvuyo was a perfect match” says Voges.
Apart from being totally immersed in his work, Luvuyo is an aspiring tri-athlete with his sights set on the 2014 Ironman 70.3 He’s been crisscrossing the country recently competing in various cycling and running events including his first Herald VW Cycle Challenge earlier this year. He is a committed family man with two daughters, Siyavuya 5yrs and the Inathi 7months.
For the last ten years I have been working with clients developing marketing strategies and campaigns across various sectors but one that keeps me up all hours is destination marketing” says Bangazi. “The first task for Luvuyo in his new role at the MBDA will be to consolidate the great work that’s happened to date, formulate a strategic marketing plan that will see City marketing through for the next two to five years with focus on immediate action and implementation” says Voges.
Through the work of the MBDA the inner city has seen another lease on life developing over the past three years. The MBDA’s public sector investment forms a good basis for private sector real estate investment, but such a response will not be forthcoming without a strong marketing message not only reaching the people of the City, but also nationally and internationally. “I cannot think of anyone better and experienced than Luvuyo to put this message across. All of us at the MBDA are very excited about his arrival and his role in the City finding its rightful place in the family of competitive cities”, says Voges.
