2015 Golden Ticket winner Lungisa Xhamela’s Idols dreams ended on 11 October 2015 when he was sent home on the first day of Hell Week.
But as one door closes another always opens as the talented Lungisa had already been approached by people in the music industry wanting to work with him.
Then staying in Cape Town, Lunga said; “Honestly, I was not really surprised, and that doesn’t mean that I didn’t trust myself as an artist or I didn’t really do well, because I did awesome. But I just didn’t think that the votes were going to be enough, and I felt it,”
Lungisa gave up his studies in medical bioscience at the University of the Western Cape to pursue his musical dreams full-time for the sake of his then two-year-old daughter, who now lives with his parents in Port Elizabeth‘s Bluewater Bay. “I got everything I wanted from this experience and more” he commented as he came off-stage on that fateful Sunday night. “This competition has opened up so many doors for me, and I’m excited to get out there and get my career started.”
“It’s not the end, it is definitely the beginning of my career. I’ll be using Idols as a platform to boost me as an artist. A lot of opportunities are opening up already. I can’t wait and I am so excited,” said the Port Elizabeth native.
His two-year-old daughter stays with his parents in Port Elizabeth as he carves out a career for himself in Johannesburg.
Soulful singer Lungisa has now announced the release of his much anticipated debut single “Musiq” (Ngaphakathi). “Musiq” has been well received, now sitting at close to 10 000 downloads and streams within just a week of its release.
“Musiq” is the first single taken out of Lungisa’s debut album due for release in 2017. Already with an impressive fan base Lungisa says he’s grateful for the support and is determined to super exceed what South African’s were exposed when he was on Idols.
“I’ve taken my time in producing a sound that is unique and reflects who I am as an artist. Music is a universal language. In it I can express my true self, and that’s exactly what I’ve done with this single and the many others to follow,” says Lungisa.
“Musiq” (Ngaphakathi) is currently available for streaming and download on various music platforms.
