The Brothers (formerly The Brothers Of Other Mothers) hail from Port Elizabeth: the windy, friendly city. Here they skank up a little storm with their band of reggae, funk and rock, infused with heady doses of improvisation – a unique genre known as Skafrican. The Brothers are like a good curry; a whoze made up of various flavours and textures, at times rough and soulful, at others slick and progressive. Dynamics are explored to take the listeners on a voyage through contrasting approaches; all done with love and commitment.
Of course the ‘Living in PE’ track off of ‘Black and White’ is MyPE’s favourite. The Brothers played at the midway party during the 60th 5O5 SAP World Championships in 2015 and I was lucky enough to get a copy of the CD. The Brothers really kept the international crowd going until early in the morning with their infectious sound.

The Brothers have released three albums to date:
- Road Trip: The Brothers first full length album, released by Ibis Productions in 2010, includes most of the songs that have now become the signature sound of the band.
- Black White: It’s got the groove, the skank and the consciousness that only The Brothers can bolt together. (And Living in PE is on this album)
- Hey Now: The Brothers third album was launched on 28 May 2016 at the Rooftop Garden Bar.
