Both fullback Andries Coetzee (knee) and lock Rudi Mathee (arm) had to leave the field during the Lions’ hard-fought 19-12 victory after they led 14-5 at the break.
Both are likely out of the warm-up clash against the Sharks on Friday at Ellis Park.
Ironically Coetzee, above, had just come back from a long-term rehabilitation programme after suffering the knee injury when he was loaned to the Sharks’ Super Rugby side last year.
Mathee, the Pumas powerhouse lock, had seemed the perfect partner for the experienced Franco van der Merwe, but now both seem destined for a period on the sidelines.
The visitors stormed to a 14-0 lead after tries by flankers Jaco Kriel and Derick Minnie, before the Kings hit back with a try by left-wing Sergeal Pietersen.
And after Minnie was yellow-carded, leading to a penalty try for the hosts, the Kings reduced matters to just 14-12.
The Lions however scored their third try through replacement hooker Robbie Coetzee and then kept the Kings bottled up in their own territory.
The Cheetahs were impressive in their 31-6 win over the Pumas at the Old Greys fields in Bloemfontein on Saturday, scoring four tries to none.
