Port Elizabeth FCS members were hard at work in their quest to have justice served as they ensured that suspects accused of rape received life imprisonment and 15 years imprisonment for their crimes.
On 05 March 2015, 39-year-old Mncedisi Dingani was sentenced to life imprisonment. The sentence followed the rape of a 13 year old girl who was sent to the shop by her parents on 30 November 2013 in the afternoon. The victim was called by the suspect to his house where he gave her something to eat. While she was in the house he locked the doors, strangled and raped the girl. The little girl managed to escape from the suspect after her sister came to the suspects house looking for her. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident was reported to the police and he remained in custody until the sentence.
In an unrelated incident, on 09 February 2015, 27-year-old Mncedisi Siwayi was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for assaulting and raping a 18-year-old girl. In February 2013 the victim accompanied the accused to a friend’s house to sell a battery. While on route, the accused assaulted and raped the girl. She informed her father and the accused was arrested shortly after the matter was reported to the police. The suspect remained in custody until the sentence.
Port Elizabeth FCS Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Bukelwa Maqhubela commended the investigators involved for the proper investigation which led to the successful conviction and sentence given to the two sexual offenders. “The tide against the rapists is turning as the FCS members are working around the clock to ensure that the rapist are brought to book to restore the communities’ faith and trust in the fight against crimes against women and children”, she said.
